How to find my turbo part number

To make sure you order the correct replacement turbocharger you will need to know the turbo part number. Alternatively, we can use your registration vehicle number to identify the turbo part but this is not always enough.

Here is a list of the most common turbocharger manufacturers and how to find their turbo part numbers:

Garrett Honeywell

Garrett Honeywell turbo part numbers are located on a plate or etched into a small rectangular machined area on the aluminium compressor housing. Typically, the number consists of a 6 digit number (xxxxxx) followed by a dash ( – ) then 4 numbers, later versions will also have a suffix following the last 4 digits (xxxxS). Part numbers will usually start with 4, 7 or 8. (eg: 7xxxx0 -5xx3S)

Other numbers will be visible on the ID plate. These will be Vehicle manufacturer / OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part numbers and build serial numbers.
Numbers that you may see are the turbo frame type ie: GT1749V. This indicates the turbo type, not the turbo part number.

IHI

Turbo part numbers are usually engraved or stamped into a rectangular ID pad on the compressor housing of the turbo, similar to Garrett. Usually 4 digit Alpha / Numeric Specification number (eg: VF50 ). IHI generally use the second digit ( F ) to identify vehicle or engine manufacturer. In this case, “F” refers to Subaru.

Other numbers will be visible on the ID plate. These will be Vehicle manufacturer / OEM part numbers and build serial numbers.

Numbers that you may also see are the turbo frame type ie: RHF52, RHV4. This indicates the turbo type, not the turbo part number.

BorgWarner KKK

BorgWarner / KKK turbo part numbers will be stamped into an ID plate located on the compressor housing of the turbocharger and usually consist of an 11 digit part number (eg: 5xxx-9xx-6xxx). The first 4 digits will indicate the Turbo frame type ie: 5316- indicates the turbo is a type K16. ( Sometimes this is shortened to K16-xxxx.). The second set of numbers will usually be either 970 or 988. digits The last four digits are critical when trying to identify the turbocharger.

Other numbers will be visible on the ID plate. These will be Vehicle manufacturer / OEM part numbers and build serial numbers.

OEM part number: the part number given to the turbocharger by the vehicle/engine manufacturer.
Serial number: The serial number is unique to every single turbocharger. The number refers to the production date, etc.
BW part number: the part number given to the turbocharger by BorgWarner (former KKK part number). This number is the most useful for all Identification purposes.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi turbo part numbers will consist of 10 numbers divided by a dash after the fifth number, ( eg: 4xxxx-0xxxx) most part numbers generally start with 4. The turbo part number can usually be found stamped or etched into the compressor housing of the turbocharger.

Other numbers will be visible on the ID plate. These will be Vehicle manufacturer part numbers and build serial numbers.

Numbers that you may also see are the turbo frame type ie: TD05, TF035. This indicates the turbo type, not the turbo part number.
