Prelubrication Guide

Turbochargers are precision-engineered rotating components built with tight tolerances and extreme speed capabilities—reaching over 100,000 RPMs. The turbine shaft relies on a pressurized engine oil film for centering and lubrication: incorrect pre-lubrication before engine startup will result in catastrophic turbo failure. Bearings or turbine shafts that show signs of scorching, scoring, seizure, grooving, or melting will immediately void all warranties. Follow these critical oiling steps to prevent dry starts and protect your turbo:

Prior to turbo installation, replace the engine oil, oil filter(s), and air filter(s) with new, OEM-equivalent parts. Note that some units feature an internal micro-screen filter within the oil supply fitting—this component must also be replaced.

⚠️ Important Check: Inspect all air and exhaust inlets/outlets for obstructions, damage, or debris before proceeding.

  • A new oil supply line is strongly recommended: accumulated petroleum coke (carbon buildup) can dislodge and clog oil passages, leading to failure.
  • Ensure the oil drain line is thoroughly cleaned, fitted with a new gasket, and completely free of kinks or blockages. Use of silicone sealants will void warranties—restricted oil drainage causes seal leakage.

Before starting the engine:

  1. Lubricate the turbo with clean, manufacturer-recommended engine oil. Slowly pour 2–3 ounces (50–60 cc) into the supply fitting while manually rotating the turbine wheel gently. Take your time—this process may require patience. Never use compressed air or air tools to turn the turbine.
  2. Flush/prime the oil supply line by cranking the engine without starting it. Continue until oil flows freely through the line with no restrictions. Do not hold the compressor wheel during flushing/priming—trapped air in the supply line can damage the turbine shaft or bearings and void warranties.

After installation, allow the engine to idle at low RPM for 3–5 minutes to establish a stable oil film.
